What it's built on

Simplicity of an exchange, security of a hardware signer

Three things decide whether you keep an app for your crypto: whether you can see what you hold, whether you can act on it, and whether anyone else can touch it.

  • Every asset, every chain, in one portfolio view
  • Buy and swap at rates your own signer approves
  • Stake ETH, SOL and stablecoins without giving up custody
visibility

Clarity

Track balances and history across every address, follow profit and loss as it moves, and see which assets buyers are actually gravitating towards.

swap_horiz

Choice

Compare 50+ service providers across 100+ chains on every buy and swap, with gas-free swaps and stablecoin yield on the table.

verified_user

Control

Nothing moves without your signer. Every transaction is displayed on the device and only you can approve it.

Two parts, one job

Crypto management made simple

The desktop app gives you somewhere sensible to work. The signer keeps the keys out of reach. Neither is much use without the other.

Ledger Live Desktop

Send and receive thousands of currencies, build a portfolio across 100+ chains, and make buy, swap and staking decisions with the numbers in front of you.

Your Ledger signer

The device holds your private keys offline and shows you what you are approving, so a phishing site or a malicious contract approval has nothing to reach.

How it compares

Why settle for less?

More clarity, more confidence and more control than the software wallet or the exchange account you're using now.

Exchanges

Ownership
You hold the keys, the signer keeps them offline, and it confirms every transaction.
You hold the keys, but they sit online and are exposed to hacks.
check
The exchange holds your assets. You have a balance on their books.
Exposure
Transaction details appear on the signer before you approve, and only you can approve them.
A phishing site or a bad contract approval can drain the wallet you're connected to.
Losses from exchange breaches and failures land on you, and you have no control over them.
Guidance
An app built for newcomers, with market insights and clear transaction reviews.
Few guardrails, and no one to check that what you're signing is what you think it is.
Little help learning to hold assets yourself, or to spot an approval you shouldn't sign.

Already have a signer, or choosing your first one?

Ledger Live Desktop runs with every Ledger signer, from the Nano range to Flex and Stax.

Flexible connectivity

Connect to dApps straight from the desktop app

No browser extension, no middleware and no second wallet. Ledger Live Desktop talks to supported dApps directly, and your signer still verifies what you're approving before anything moves.

  • public

Connects to supported dApps with no extension to install

  • lock

Safer than a software wallet, because the keys stay in the signer

  • verified_user

Real ownership, unlike an account held on an exchange

Three steps

Up and running in three steps

You'll need a Ledger signer to get started. If you already own one, the rest takes minutes.

1

Download Ledger Live Desktop

Install it on Windows, macOS or Linux. There's no account to create and no email address to hand over.

2

Connect your Ledger signer

Plug the device in over USB and unlock it with your PIN. Your private keys are held inside it from the very first use.

3

Start using your portfolio

Add your accounts, then buy, swap, stake and send. Every transaction is shown on the signer, and only you can approve it.

Day to day

Buy, swap and stake without handing over your keys

Buying, swapping and staking run on third-party services and settle through your signer, so the provider never takes custody of your assets.

Price compare

Buy strategically

Compare what providers offer across thousands of coins and chains, and see market context before you commit. Payment methods and availability vary by country.

Swap across chains

Swap simply and securely

Providers compete for your business, so you see the rate before you approve it on the signer. No browser window and no extension in the middle.

Earn rewards

Put your crypto to work

Stake ETH, SOL and popular stablecoins while keeping ownership of the assets and the keys. Rewards aren't guaranteed, and staking carries its own risks.

Frequently asked questions

It's the desktop application for your Ledger signer. It shows your whole portfolio in one place and gives you somewhere to buy, swap, stake and send, while the signer holds your keys and approves each transaction.

Yes. Ledger Live Desktop is built to work with a Ledger hardware signer, because that's where your private keys live. The app itself is free to download and free to use.

Windows, macOS and Linux, each with its own installer. Download the Linux build, and the same accounts can follow you onto the Ledger Live mobile app.

Your crypto doesn't go with it. As long as you still have your recovery phrase, you can restore your accounts onto a replacement signer and get back to the same assets. Never type that phrase into a website, an email, or a chat with anyone.

Third-party providers. Ledger supplies the app and the signer; the transaction services come from external companies, and Ledger gives no advice or recommendation on using them. Rewards are not guaranteed.

Yes. Ledger Live Desktop connects to supported dApps directly, with no browser extension or middleware, and every transaction still has to be approved on your signer.

Still deciding?

Download it and have a look around. The app is free, and nothing moves without your signer.
